Game of Thrones Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 10: Mhysa!

Ahoy!

You've made it back for another week of Game of Thrones. Quite frankly, we're a little bit surprised. Last week's episode was all kinds of disgusting, terrible, and sad. You're pretty silly returning for more.

And yet, here you are, so let's watch some Game of Thrones.

Maybe your favourite character is still alive, and you feel a vested interest in the show. Good for you!

someone on the internet made this.

so, what other depravity to these sick fucks have in store for us this week?

What's up with those Lanniser folks?
How's that Khaleesi lady and her puppies, men?
Is Davos still reading?
Is Stannis still needlessly murdering leeches?
WTF is a Mhysa?

Hit the jump, and let's find out together!

You better watch out, because it seems as though some things may be happening soon.

*spoilers*

Game of Thrones Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 8: Second Sons.

hey, everyone!  and welcome back, uh, us!
we had many intentions of being here with you all last week, but alas, we fell prey to the inevitable throes of toronto maple leafs fandom.

the terrifying lows, the soaring highs, the creamy middles!
(link)

but let us speak no more of that, lest our sportive hearts break yet again.  and frankly, after last night's doctor who series seven finale, we don't know how much more we can take.

thankfully, river song has appeared to remind us not to shed any spoilers until after the jump.
(link)

wikipedia's got a nice primer on the previous episode, but for those of you who'd prefer not to click away, here are a few points we enjoyed (or didn't?):
-Sansa Stark's heart-rending innocence: "Did your mother teach you that?"  oh, bless!  she really believes Margaery is a virgin.  that scene was pretty excellent, and made us love Margaery even more than we already did.
-that scene between Joffrey and Tywin was shot and directed beautifully.  very powerful to see these characters interact: neither wishes to concede any power, yet both must defer (to some varying degree) to the other.
-Melisandre and Gendry are in Blackwater Bay?  that's...different.  Seems like she won't be heading directly back to Dragonstone.  And she told him about his lineage!  What is she planning?
-Orell is boring and typical, and Ygritte dispatches him accordingly.  However, the windmill scene was adorable - love to see this character with her defenses dropped, no matter how fleeting!
-Robb Stark and Talisa's butts - simultaneously.  ALL the BUTTS.  Game of Butts.
-Arya was captured by the Hound!  More interactions between them immediately!  Please?
-I don't really want to talk about Theon's sexual assault and subsequent castration.  Wait, whoops.
-Daenerys is becoming a more impressive leader by the minute, it seems.  And the dragons look dooooope.
-The rescue of Brienne by Jaime was by far one of the best parts of this episode - but to be honest, we were pretty uncomfortable with the fact that they used a real bear.  This is a show that destroyed whole ecosystems in Malta; I wouldn't imagine that humane treatment of animals is a high priority.

(link)

but enough of that!  what's going to happen tonight?

-the episode's title implies it could be heavy on the Tyrion and Bran (plus Rickon, i guess) storylines.  are we missing anyone?
-how will this first of many weddings to come play out?
-will today's nudity be gratuitous - and if so, will it be somewhat even-handed?
-will we be beset by yet more torture scenes, likely starring Alfie Allen and his torturer (whom we've mistakenly named many times, not realizing it was meant to be a secret)?
-what's next for Daenerys and her mission to free the slaves of Essos?  perhaps...a distraction?
-and what about spoiler?  Spoiler spoiler spoiler!

let's hit the jump and see if we can't learn the answer to some of these questions together.

Game of Thrones Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 6: The Climb

Hey again!

Summer's just around the corner here, but in the lands of Westoros, winter is far nearer!
What's this week's episode, "The Climb" going to have in store for us?

i uhh, i know sometimes we put in song references having to do with the episode titles, etcetera...
But as far as i can make out, it's a pretty popular Miley Cyrus song. We're not showing you that.

But hey - it's a book apparently! About climbing Mount Everest, so, uhhh, there's that!

shhh. don't worry about it. just pretend it's the wall or something

Anyway, what's going on this week?

How's are the Lannister siblings (most notably Tyrion and Cersei) going to cope with their new directions and roles in King's Landing?
What will happen with Daenerys and her Unsullied? (Go Team Grey Worm!)
Will any one of Littlefinger, The Hound, Tywin, or Stannis do something creepy and untoward?
Will Jon Snow have his guts pulled out through his nose?
How will Arya cope with the loss of Gendry, and her m'lady-zoning?

potentially violently?

Hit the jump, and let's talk about it!

(link)

whoops, sorry jaime!  too soon?

(link)

will dany (and her unsullied) be in this episode?
just what does jon snow know, anyway? (spoiler alert: nothing!)

The Walking Dead Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 16: "Welcome to the Tombs" (Season Finale!)

Whoo!

We made it through 16 episodes of guts and gore (and I don't mean the writing) to arrive at the climax of the third season of The Walking Dead.

One would get the impression there's going to be a showdown or something, right?
Today's episode is called "Welcome to the Tombs" - that seems like a pretty bad ass place for a battle, no?

pink floyd is always cool.

There's plenty in the air, and plenty (or so they want you to believe) at stake in tonight's episode.

Will Andrea make it out of Woodbury alive?
Will Team Prison remain Team Prison, or instead Team On-The-Road-Again ?
How will Michonne react to the group sort of ousting her?
How will Daryl react to the death of Merle?
Does Rick have his stuff together enough to keep this gang together?

Is this episode going to provide more closure than questions?

Hit the jump with us, and we'll talk a bit about how we got here.

it's hard to keep stuff like this straight.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Live Blog! Episode 15: This Sorrowful Life.

Welcome back, folks!  Grab yourself a drink (we're having some mulberry magic tea, James Ready beer, and Muskoka Twice as Mad Tom IPA, but feel free to make your own choices) and settle in for the latest episode:  This Sorrowful Life.

seems like a harvester of sorrow would be pretty useful for these people.

Who's going to die tonight?
How will the writers drag out one more episode before the final battle (or worse, a cliffhanger leading up to no climax whatsoever)?
Will Merle's redemption arc finally be executed (heh)?
Will we be able to sit through whatever happens to Andrea in the Governor's torture room?
And will this be the episode to make us say "yeah...Game of Thrones is back next week.  fuck this
show"?

rick's into giving out roles these days.

hit the jump, in the hopes that we will find the answers to these, and many other questions!

The Walking Dead Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 11: I ain't a Judas

Hey there!

We're certain that you, just like us, have been sitting on the edge of your seat since the end of last week's episode! It was a real nail biter, no? I mean, seriously... Who is it that's telling somebody else (in very poor grammar) that they're not a judas? Who, really, who? I mean, it could be Daryl, but we know that Reedus is a Judas, right?

i mean, unless the writers are willing to ignore such obvious things.

so we guess it could be Merle, right?
He's not going to betray anyone, right?
And he can't really do no talking not so good, huh?

Meh, just 'cause, here's Daryl again, before Z-Day.

life's easier now, huntin' squirrels.

Anywho, it seems like we're on the verge of a whole lot of messiness going down in these next few episodes, and it's a safe bet it starts picking up here, no? There are only five episodes left after all.

Lots of questions to be answered (as per usual) in Georgia tonight.

Will Rick and the Prison Gang retaliate to the Governor's attack?
How will Andrea cope with the knowledge that her friends are alive, and were attacked?
Is Merle going to be able to adapt to life in prison? (heh, see what I did there?)

this guy clearly never saw any of the Evil Dead films OR Planet Terror
- excellent examples of coping with your new body during the zombpacalypse...
...or wait. maybe he's just confused, 'cause he has all those bad-ass stabby attachments

And seriously! Just who in the world isn't a judas, anyway?

We NEED to know.

The Walking Dead Season 3 LiveBlog! Episode 10: Home!

You're back!
You survived, good for you. You're doing a lot better than some of the chumps on this show.

Welcome back for another fanciful week of Walker-Geddon in the hills (plains) of Georgia, with the fine folk of The Walking Dead. Last week's episode "The Suicide King" offered up a lot of changes, and hopefully we'll see how these changes affect our characters in this week's episode, called "Home"

yeah, anytime i can put NIN in a post, i will. they have a song with the same name of an ep? boooooom

So, will the fine folks of Woodbury retaliate on Rick's Posse?
Will Ghost Lori be able to prevent Rick from killing teenage girls with machine guns? (man, he did that.)
How will the Whistlin' Dixons deal with brotherhood again so suddenly after all this time apart? And with their separate allegiances?

too much? not enough? let us know!

take off your shoes and coat and come on inside. we've got some drinks and snacks, and a whole bunch of walking dead ahead, so c'mon in.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 8: Made to Suffer

Welcome back to another ...PrettyMuchAMovie Liveblog!

Today's episode of The Walking Dead promises to either bring many separate conflicts to a head in neat and interesting ways, or to completely bore us and hold off on further development until we return next year. Eww. Hopefully they chose to move things along.

So, what's today's Mid-Life  Season Crisis going to be, any way?

Will Rick and his small group of roamers break through the walls of Woodbury?
Will Andrea finally wake up and realize that the Governor is a disgusting slimy doucheball?
Will Carl be able to hold down the fort/prison with Rick and Daryl gone?

carl's hp has varied strongly from season one. he's even attained +4 bullet resistance.  i guess that justifies placing him in charge of grown-ass adults?

For the answer to these and many more questions, jump with us, and get a little party going.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 7: When the Dead Come Knocking

Good Sunday Evening, everyone!

Clearly with it being Sunday, you've shuffled your internet self over here to have a few drinks, and crunch some chips, and find out all about Walkers, Biters, Lurkers and Creepers with us.

Today's episode is called "When the Dead Come Knocking", and promises to bring us further befuddlement of our favourite settlements at both Unnamed Prison, and Woodbury, Georgia.

Wouldn't you know it though, I'm not particularly aware of any songs out there in the world called "When the Dead Come Knocking". I do suppose that we could write it. Or maybe even that some obscure metal band has already done so and it's not on Youtube. Either way, everyone loves some Johnny Cash.

Close enough, eh? Honourable mention to Knocking on Heaven's Door from Axl and Co.

So what do the sick fucks writers have in store for us this week?

How much longer will Andrea run around with her head in her ass?
How far will the Governor go in questioning Glenn and Maggie?
Will Little Ass-Kicker get a name? Or some of Michonne's formula?
Will Michonne find sanctuary with Rick's gang?

oscar too has risen to a level of respect. it's true. otherwise, why would they even show us this?

Join us over the jump to get the answer to these, and hopefully many more questions.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 6: Hounded

welcome back!

we're here for another week of walker fun with rick et al (at least, that's certainly how the writers seem to view things).

today's episode is called "Hounded", again evoking some musical ideas.

we are in no way as old as our musical references imply

a whole lot's been happening, and we've yet to see full ramifications from many of the events thus far.

since lori's death, rick has:

-killed various walkers in gruesome fashions.
-pinned glenn to walls inside the prison.

and since lori's death rick has not:

-held his newborn daughter.
-talked to his son.
-appeared to be sane.

what will he do to shake things up this week?
how will michonne fare outside of woodbury?
is woodbury anywhere near jackson lake?

we're just blowing off steam!

join us after the jump for the answer to these and many more questions!

The Walking Dead Season 3 Liveblog! Episode 5: Say the Word

hey! you're back, and so are we!
it's sunday again, and so we'll be here liveblogging The Walking Dead.

Today's episode is called "Say the Word", which inspires further musical references.

The Beatles are well aware of the word, and its implications.

What does this week's episode have in store for us?

How will Rick cope with Lori's death?

hint: not well. probably about as well as the writers? who's the lady trope now?

How will the deaths of two members (and a potential third?) affect the group?
How will Carl adapt to having a little sister?
...will they name her?
How will Daryl find formula or baby food out there in walker land?
Daryl is by far the most stylish of Rick's group.

Oh, right. Stuff will also happen involving Woodbury, and Merle, and Carol, and Andrea, and Michonne, and the Governor, and this will all eventually intersect. Spoiled!
Hop, Skip, and Jump along with us to find out all about what happens this week, and how many walkers get beaned.

the walking dead season 3 liveblog! episode 4: killer within.

please forgive me this brief preamble!  or, you know, don't.  all good.
so, your friendly (ha!) ...pretty much a movie! bloggers had the impossibly good fortune to see the following song performed live on october 25:

...the killer in me is the killer in you...

and now, less than two weeks later, our favourite sunday-night zombie apocalypse drinking fest is airing an episode titled "killer within."

(link)

what will happen this week?
will michonne get her sword back?
will the woodbury folks meet the prison folks?
(will the writers stop ignoring the comics?)
will rick and lori kiss and make up?
(see above parenthetical point?)

(she's got a great point, no?)

follow us over the jump to learn all that and more!

movie review: 50/50.

50/50
(link)
funny how the poster implies that joseph gordon-levitt has testicular cancer, when it is almost certainly spinal.  oh well!  i'm sure the temptation to make a nut-joke was simply too great to resist.

but what's this?  a movie?!  hey now!  we do review those every now and again!  weekly, in fact - at least now that game of thrones is out for the season (noooo!), and we've still got until october until we begin/resume liveblogging for our other "sort-of-a-movie," the walking dead.
so anyway. moving on to the movie!

canadian release date: 30-september-2011
writer: will reiser
director: jonathan levine
starring: joseph gordon-levitt, seth rogen, anna kendrick, bryce dallas howard, anjelica huston

fun fact!  it was actually bryce dallas howard who came up with the movie's title.  according to imdb, the crew was skeptical when she suggested it, but later elected to use the title without thinking to inform her. apparently, she was "surprised" when she found out, though there's no indication of when or how such a discovery was made.  i like to think her reaction was something like this:
(link)
it's a fact.

i wonder whether or not the above anecdote will set the tone for the rest of the movie.  i suppose well never know until we watch, so come on - jump with us!

movie review: easy a.

easy a.
(link)
canadian release date: 17-september-2010
writers: bert v. royal
director: will gluck
starring: emma stone, patricia clarkson, stanley tucci, aly michalka, amanda bynes

this is the first movie by writer bert v. royal.  not that you care, but -
it's a fact.
emma stone's appeal seems to be pretty-well universal, and i'd say that's a pretty good reason to check out this movie - with us!  after the jump!
